The series of artworks in aquarelle technique entitled “The Lake” is dedicated to the natural reserve – Lake Kerkini, near which the artist now lives after moving to one of the nearby villages.  The move gave the artist the opportunity to immerse herself deeply in the rhythm of the area. Daily observations of nature and conversations with local residents about the peculiarities of these places became a source of visual metaphors and plots. It combines stylized landscapes, ornamental flower motifs, animals, birds, and human figures. There is no exact nature here. Instead, there are simplified forms, rhythms, patterns, and color combinations that convey the character of the lake’s ecosystem and the author’s emotional response to it. This series was conceived by the author to reflect the character and biological diversity of the lake through artistic and illustrative language and to explain why this place is important and why it is worth preserving.

“Good Year” is a series of twelve watercolor paintings inspired by the zodiac signs. Over the year, the sun goes through a full periodic circle of the star signs, during which the state of nature and man changes. When one has seen spring, autumn, winter, and summer 20, 30, or even more times, it seems there is nothing more to be curious about. Everything is already known. For a child who experiences changes in nature and oneself, it is a real adventure that brings a storm of positive emotions. The colors are bright, the trees are high, and the simple is fraught with many mysteries and miracles. People are born, grow up and leave, but the zodiac signs continue to spin along the wheel of time.

In ancient Greek “Μαινάδες” means «mad», «demented» companions and worshippers of the ancient Greek god Dionysus. Dionysus is the ancient Thracian god of fertility. The cult of Dionysus glorified unity with nature. During the festivities, the Maenads danced in the wild nature to the sounds of timbrels and flutes. Spontaneous dance, excitement, and delight. Unity with everything that exists in the world. Like in our
childhood when you taste the rain or run to hug the trees. Hearing the inner melody, and surrendering to an intoxicating impulse without thinking about rationality and prudence, in order to survive can become the best moments of life.

Magical creatures, the lower part of which resembles a bird of prey, and the upper part resembles a woman with a beautiful voice that drives those who hear it crazy. Such features of the constitution of their bodies hint that they embrace inside of them an eternal dance of two elements: rational and irrational. In modern culture, the manifestation of rational qualities such as being consistent, argumentative, illustrative, and proving is encouraged. Intuitive behavior is treated as frivolous and superficial. From childhood, we were taught to control our manifestations and often shamed for spontaneity. However, it is known that the source of creativity and unique manifestations lie in this hidden part of the personality. Hearing the voice of a bird woman is like allowing your inner irrational element to be manifested and stop controlling. Take the fearless step towards who you really are. Strange, magical, and beautiful.
